Thrive 2021

Offering after-hours veterinary care – whether in general practice or dedicated emergency service – is demanding and highly stressful for everyone involved. The vets, nurses, and support staff can experience significant emotional and physical stress.

The main reasons for this are:

  • The complexity of the cases
  • High-pressure environment
  • Long hours during the night and weekends
  • Loss of patients
  • Limited resources
  • Grieving clients
  • Limited access to support
  • Limited training

After-hours staff must learn to be resilient, composed, and confident within the workplace all whilst prioritising their own wellbeing and growth. This is almost impossible to do it solo, without the support of coaches and mentors, and professionals who have been through the trenches and have come out the other side, not just surviving but thriving. These coaching and mentors can provide insight, knowledge, and advice on how to overcome the challenges and the fears that come with emergency/after-hours work.

How It All Began

How it all began… 3 years ago Animal Emergency Australia had over 300 team members across Australia. AEA wanted to empower and support their team members, however, they struggled to find a solution to the problem which was how to tackle the unique set of challenges its after-hours emergency team members were facing and provide that solution to all team members around Australia.
